Mid-diaphragmatic Pericardial Bochdalek Hernia

Abstract
Hernia through the foramen of Bochdalek is the most common type of congenital diaphragmatic hernia, but mid-diaphragmatic pericardial Bochdalek hernia of variety of Bochdalek hernia is very rare, and it is one of the surgical emergencies in the new-born.
The foramen is more frequently on left.
Embryologically, the foramen of Bochdalek represents defect of various sizes in the posterolateral area of diaphragm due to incomplete fusion of pleuroperitoneal membrane. The herniated viscera then usually includes stomach, small bowel, colon, Spleen and occasionally pancreas, kidney and liver.
The mortality rate rises concomitantly with delay in surgical intervention and complicate the congenital anomalies, in spite of reinfinements in surgical techniques developed with recent decades.
Recently, we saw a 11 month old infant with mid-diaphragmatic pericardial Bochdalek hernia, arised from anterolateral portion of left diaphragm.
We report his case, and reivew and discuss the literature.
